Thomas Hutchinson, PhD – Pre-Licensed Mental Health Counselor | Black Belt Professor of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Thomas Hutchinson is a pre-licensed mental health counselor based in Lynn, Massachusetts, combining his extensive academic, clinical, and athletic background to offer a unique and integrative approach to therapy. Holding a PhD in Political Science and over eight years of teaching experience at both the college and primary school levels, Thomas has a deep understanding of human development and social dynamics. In addition to his academic work, Thomas is a black belt professor of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and a former MMA competitor, with over 10 years of coaching experience at both the amateur and professional levels. His martial arts training has fostered a profound respect for discipline, resilience, and the mind-body connection, elements he brings into his therapeutic practice. Thomas has trained under the tutelage of Georgetown Professor and Lacanian psychiatrist Wilfried Ver Eecke, which has greatly influenced his clinical, academic, and scholarly approach. He integrates Lacanian psychoanalysis, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and trauma-informed care to help clients address both immediate emotional concerns and deeper unconscious dynamics.
