Clinical Psychologist Fitzpatrick Counseling & Psychotherapy, Inc.

Introduction

Many people seek psychotherapy with the hope of obtaining a certain outcome – e.g., resolving relationship problems, overcoming depression or anxiety, changing undesirable behaviors, etc. Although this is not inherently problematic, when we are overly attuned to symptoms or outcomes we often lose sight of the process necessary to actualize our hopes. By turning our attention to the process of change, we can enhance our upmost potentials that allow us to grow into the person we want to become. Thus, I focus on the process of being and becoming. In fact, it is the process of self-discovery that I am most passionate about. This involves a passion for meaning making and helping those who feel stuck to identify and remove the barriers toward change so that they can live a more fulfilling life. Keeping with the spirit of Existential-Humanistic (EH) psychotherapy, I take a deeply relational approach in which I believe it is the therapeutic relationship that heals. Through a solid therapeutic relationship, I help you cultivate the courage and resolve to gain greater comfort and security within your vulnerabilities. Yet, we move at a pace that is safe and comfortable for you. This involves an exploration of the relationship you have with yourself, others, and the world around you, and how this manifests in the therapeutic relationship. Additionally, I help you get more in touch with your thoughts, feelings, emotions., and behaviors. Through a curious exploration of your life, I enjoy learning about the relationship you have with your struggles, the significance they hold for you, and the agency you have in the process.
