Hello! Hola! My name is Maureen Guilbot, and I ama bilingual strengths-oriented Clinical Therapist with a provisional license (MHC-LP) in New York. I have a Master of Education and a Master of Arts in Psychological Counseling, with a concentration in Bilingual Latina/o Mental Health from Columbia University, Teachers College. My primary clinical training involves working with children, adolescents, adults, and older adults facing anxiety, depression, ADHD, and grief. I additionally have experience working with PTSD and stress. My main areas of expertise include grief and loss, anxiety, depression, perinatal mental health, relationships and communication, life transitions, and trauma. In my work, I use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, Strengths-Oriented Therapy, Multicultural Therapy, Trauma-Informed Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy. My approach involves a holistic, person-centered focus, where you can combine coping skills learned in therapy with your existing strengths. I believe that counseling starts with building connections with therapists who recognize cultural components and the significance of language. As a therapist, I rely on my knowledge of the Latina/o community to communicate with clients about mental health stigma, develop trust, and discuss resources available. I am able to provide therapy in English and Spanish for those who wish to conduct sessions fully in Spanish. In my therapy work, I take a non-judgmental approach and allow you to be you. A goal of mine is for therapy to feel like a welcoming and safe space. Recognizing that everyone has strengths that can aid in their healing journey as they navigate the world of mental health. A fun fact about me is a hobby I picked up recently is knitting and caring for my (potentially way too many) plants!
