Introduction

Hello, and welcome! I'm Mary Laidlaw, the owner of Laidlaw Counseling, LLC. I'm a fully licensed clinical social worker, providing care in both South Dakota and Idaho. I earned my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of Minnesota in 2016, and since then, I’ve been dedicated to supporting children, families, and adults through compassionate, client-centered therapy. My clinical approach is rooted in the belief that healing begins by meeting each person exactly where they are. I follow your lead, honoring your pace and experiences as we work together toward growth and change. I am trained in evidence-based modalities including Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Motivational Interviewing. These tools help me tailor our work to your unique needs—whether you're navigating trauma, anxiety, parenting challenges, or life transitions. I provide LGBTQ+ affirming care rooted in respect, safety, and a deep commitment to honoring your lived experience. Also at Laidlaw Counseling, we have Emily McAuley. Meet Emily McAuley, CSW Emily is a Certified Social Worker who specializes in youth and children's mental health, with a particular focus on supporting neurodiverse individuals—including those with ADHD, learning differences, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Before becoming a therapist, Emily was a dedicated public school educator. Her passion for helping children, teens, and their families led her to the field of social work, where she now brings both clinical knowledge and educational insight to her practice. She has experience working with clients ages 3 to 16 and is currently working toward becoming a Registered Play Therapist. Emily is under clinical supervision with Laidlaw Counseling, LLC (SD #6055) as she works toward independent licensure for private practice. A South Dakota native, Emily enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the Black Hills, and getting lost in a good book.
