Hi, I’m Makando—and I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Certified Sex Therapist (CST), and Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT), and my approach is rooted in safety, trust, and compassion. Healing begins when we feel safe, seen, and supported—and that’s exactly what Sela offers: a space to rediscover parts of yourself that may feel lost due to neglect, exploitation, or oppression. These experiences can leave deep imprints on how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world. Together, we gently explore these wounds and begin to restore connection and wholeness. Sela, which means “pause” or “reflection,” was born from both personal and professional experience. As an immigrant from Kitwe, Zambia, I’ve navigated identity, belonging, and cultural expectations—often within communities where mental health is dismissed or stigmatized. My own journey toward healing inspired me to create a space for others seeking understanding, restoration, and liberation. My work is holistic, trauma-informed, and liberation-psychology centered, integrating Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), trauma-focused interventions, sex therapy, and mind-body practices like yoga and breathwork. I also use Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP), a model that emphasizes safety, emotional attunement, and connection to guide clients toward resilience, self-compassion, and transformation. At the heart of my practice is helping clients rediscover their sense of self, foster personal growth, and move toward a more fulfilling life.
