Introduction

My name is Jon (they/them/theirs), and I've been practicing psychotherapy for over 9 years. I am a second-generation Taiwanese-American, non-binary, queer mental health therapist. I provide psychotherapy (via virtual psychotherapy, or “teletherapy”) with young adults and adults. I specialize in working with people who have experienced any combination of the following: • Childhood verbal, emotional, physical, and/or sexual abuse • Insufficient attention or care for emotional needs when younger • Disrupted and/or inconsistent attachment to caregivers • Traumatic losses in childhood and/or adulthood (of people, relationships, jobs, etc.) • Disruptive transitions and migrations • Traumatic experiences in adulthood • Loneliness • Cultural stress and multi-cultural issues • Systemic oppression • Narcissistic abuse MY APPROACH I am a certified practitioner (completed Level 3 training) in Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment (TIST), which is a neuroscience-based and somatic way of treating trauma-related challenges. This means I help clients see and understand less visible or confusing patterns that show up in their nervous systems / bodies, relationships with others, relationships with parts of themselves, and their behaviors. Using research-informed strategies, tools, and frameworks, I aim to help clients gain more clarity about how their experiences shaped parts of themselves and achieve more ease and alignment within themselves and in the directions of their lives. Through our work together, I will help you: • Understand those involuntary and confusing inner experiences that have been difficult to manage • Understand the connections between your mind and body • Learn how to work directly with your brain and nervous system to remain more calm, more present, and more open • Learn skills to work toward more control with your inner experiences and outward behaviors • Learn to be more assertive, discerning, and “boundaried” in all types of relationships • Become more mentally and emotionally flexible, to deal with the unpredictable nature of life with more strength and resilience • Become the healer for all parts of you that have been carrying the burdens of old wounds MY STYLE My style is warm, down-to-earth, research-informed, and depth-oriented. I bring humor and lightness where appropriate and can also meet clients amid very intense and complex experiences. It is of utmost importance to me that clients feel as emotionally safe as possible in every step of our work together. I deeply believe this work should be as supportive as possible to people becoming the wisest, strongest, and most aligned versions of themselves. As such, I pay a great deal of attention to pacing, so that my clients don’t get overwhelmed in our sessions or in-between sessions, due to our work. Yet I also hold the importance of efficiency, so that clients can experience more sense of agency, clarity, control, ease, and relief as soon as possible. BOOK A FREE 15-MIN CONSULTATION VIA VIDEO CALL I am passionate about this work and am eager to support you. Feel free to request a free 15-minute consultation via video call below, or you can email me at jon.lee.mft@gmail.com.
