Humans are social beings, and when something is not right with our most important relationships, we suffer. As adults, our difficulties are often rooted in childhood wounds or deficits. We may experience interpersonal distress, overwhelming or numbed emotions, unhelpful thinking, and problem behaviors. Therapy can provide insight, but also allows clients to co-create reparative experiences. Attachment theory and mindfulness form the foundation of my therapeutic approach, but I also frequently incorporate CBT, EMDR, PBSP and Circle of Security Parenting. Regarding Children and Teens: After nearly three decades supporting children and teens as a mentor, teacher, and counselor, my therapeutic work with children focuses on supporting parents and caregivers to make changes that strengthen their relationships with their children. The most effective way to address a child's problem behaviors and emotional distress is through the caregiver-child relationship. I am passionate about helping parents and caregivers explore how experiences in their own family of origin influence their parenting/caregiving and helping repair relationship ruptures between parents and children.
