Introduction

Imua Center is more than a psychological services practice—it is a culturally grounded, community-driven space for healing, growth, and resilience. Rooted in the Hawaiian value of Imua, which means “to move forward with strength and purpose,” our mission is to provide compassionate, evidence-based care to individuals, couples, and families across the lifespan. We honor the unique identities and lived experiences of our clients while offering high-quality services that integrate cultural humility, clinical expertise, and whole-person wellness. Our team is led by a diverse group of dedicated professionals with deep expertise in psychological assessment, therapy, training, and education: Dr. Samantha Kalilikane, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, offers over 20 years of experience in mental health, education, and assessment. With clinical expertise in neuropsychological and developmental evaluation, trauma, infant mental health, and culturally responsive practice, Dr. Kalilikane has worked across community, educational, and medical settings. She is a skilled trainer, supervisor, and suicide prevention advocate, known for her leadership in mentoring doctoral trainees and facilitating professional development. Her practice integrates evidence-based interventions with deep respect for cultural and familial context, making her a trusted guide for clients of all ages. Dr. Sean-Michael Suarez, Post-Doctoral Resident, brings a rich background in clinical psychology, education, LGBTQIA2S+ advocacy, and performance psychology. With advanced training in health psychology and a doctoral project focused on gender-diverse youth and families, Dr. Suarez blends academic rigor with lived experience and passion. He draws from a wide range of evidence-based approaches including DBT, CBT, ACT, family systems, and trauma-informed care to meet the unique needs of each individual. Dr. Suarez also has specialized expertise in working with student-athletes and performers, offering mental skills coaching to optimize focus, motivation, and resilience. His compassionate, affirming style supports clients navigating a broad range of concerns, from mood and anxiety disorders to identity development and interpersonal issues. Together, our team strives to create a space where healing is not just possible—but deeply supported. At Imua Center, we move forward with you.
