Introduction

About Dr. James Dr. James received her Doctorate in Marital and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University (LLU), her Master’s in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Azusa Pacific University (APU), and her Bachelor’s in Psychology with a Minor in Music from University of California, Riverside (UCR). She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#49295) and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (#288) with over 20 years of clinical experience. In addition, Dr. James brings 9 years of leadership and 13 years of teaching experience in higher education, where she has been an active member of faculty governance councils and academic committees. She currently serves as full-time faculty at Loma Linda University, where she teaches and mentors students in the Marital and Family Therapy program. Clinical Expertise Her clinical journey includes serving in nonprofit and for-profit organizations in leadership, administrative, and direct-service roles. She has also developed and managed community-based, grant-funded programs. - DIR® Model (intermediate application) - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) - Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Level 1) - Person of the Therapist Model (POTT) Areas of Interest Her work is rooted in systemic, narrative, and attachment-based frameworks with a passion toward: - Prenatal fetal bonding and relational connectedness - Early intervention in neurodivergent disorders within family systems - Supporting individuals, couples, and families in building resilience, healing, and meaningful connection She also serves as a facilitator for ROOTS, a prenatal support group through Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital, designed to nurture expectant mothers and promote relational health during pregnancy. She integrates faith-based and spiritual principles when desired, while tailoring interventions to each client’s needs. Her genuine empathy, clinical expertise, and curiosity about human development, attachment, and trauma guide her practice. Teaching & Supervision Beyond her clinical work, Dr. James is passionate about mentorship and professional development. She holds a designation as an Approved/Certified Supervisor with the: American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT) For over 13 years, she has supervised Marriage and Family Therapist Trainees, Associates, and Clinical Supervisors, guiding them through their licensing journeys. She continues to support the growth of clinicians in both academic and clinical settings, emphasizing professional skills, personal awareness, and development of the therapist’s sense of self.
